Mikasa started in 1936 as All Star Trading, an import-export enterprise founded by Japanese-American Setsuo Aratani. Though business halted due to WWII, Setsuo's son and another partner revived the company and started using the moniker Mikasa. In the 50's and 60's Mikasa outgrew their reliance on Japanese imports and came to establish the brand as a premier manufacturer of chinaware and dinnerware. Today the Mikasa legacy lives on, recognized worldwide for quality and design.
